The Law To Take Medication To Stay Up Turning On The Month Of Ramadan

Sometimes we need to stay up late at night because we have to do tasks that are piled up or being tested by learning to use the SKS system (the system lasts overnight). In the month of Ramadan the Muslims revived the night (staying up late) to worship. There are several drugs or supplements that can make the eyes stretched and can stay up late at night. How does Shari'a use drugs to stay up late?

The answer, if not forced once, does not need to stay up late, especially taking medication to stay up at night, because the drug for staying up generally activates nerves, if too often will cause damage to the nerves. This is included in the prohibition, as the words of the Prophet sallalahu aih alaihi wa sallam:

لَاضَرَرَ وَلَا ضِرَارَ

"You may not do harm and harm" (Narrated by Ibn Majah, dishahihkan by al-Bani in Shahih Ibn Majah)

Although there are benefits, but if the madharat is greater, it should not be done, as is the rule in khamr / intoxicating substances. Allah Ta'ala said,

"They ask you about khamr and gambling. Say: "in both of them there is a great sin and some benefits for mankind, but his sin is greater than its benefit" (QS. Al-Baqarah: 219)

In addition, sleep at night is a resting time for humans that Allah Ta'ala has determined. Night sleep is also beneficial to health which is the maximum time for repairing body cells and neutralizing various poisons. Allah Ta'ala said:

وَمِنْ ءَايَاتِهِ مَنَامُكُم بِالَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَابْتِغَآؤُكُمْ مِّن فَضْلِهِ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لأَيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ

"And among His signs of power is your sleep at night and during the day and your efforts to find some of His gifts. Verily in this is there truly a sign for the people who listen. "(Surat Ar-Rum: 23)

Allah Ta'ala said,

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

"And we make your sleep for rest" (Q. S An-Naba ’: 9)

The following is a fatwa from al-Lajnah ad-Daimah lil Buhuts wal Ifta 'which explains that drug users to stay up late should not be done, even if for good purposes such as learning or reviving the night of Ramadan to worship.

Problem: What is the law using staying up late for the claimants of knowledge to study and for drivers for long trips.

Answer: There are more benefits than the benefits. Every such thing is more the law is haram. You may not need to use drugs and this is more useful, safer from dangerous diseases and consequences. If possible, material is shared (to be studied) during the education period. This method is more attached to the mind (memorization) and difficult to lose. For drivers, try to take a short break on long trips. Although the trip was rather late and was cut off, but it was more safe for him and for the passengers to get to the destination, and more obedient to the rules (traffic) made for the benefit of the people. (Fatawa al-Lajnah ad-Daimah, 25-36)

In conclusion: using drugs to stay up late is not permitted even though for things that are useful for example to study or revive the night of Ramadan except for emergency matters.
